Statement from Alison Penfold MP regarding the Bondi Terrorist Attack - 15 December, 2025

I stand with all citizens of our once great country, appalled by the terrorist attack and the massacre of Jewish people celebrating Hanukkah last night at Bondi Beach.

16 people are dead, many more are injured, and countless more are traumatised by the events of last night.

Australia is changed forever and not for the better.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victims and the entire Jewish community.

My gratitude goes to police, emergency services, and the brave souls who acted selflessly to end the bloodshed and save the lives of complete strangers.

There is no place in this country for hatred to rein on our streets.

Those who bring intifada to Australia have no home here.

And no government should give them and their ideas residence here.

Our national government has given harbour to antisemitism.

We all feared the consequences now writ large with blood on our streets.

Hard decisions must be made. Difficult questions must be answered. Decisive action is required by governments without fear or favour.

I mourn for the innocent lives taken, the Jewish community, and the country we have become.
