As your local MP, I am focussed on the issues that matter to all of us: better roads, more doctors and health services, access to affordable housing and more jobs so local families and young people can build a bright future right here.

Our region has a rich and diverse history, shaped by generations of people who worked the land, built industries from the ground up, and nurtured connections to country and community.

From the timber mills and dairy farms that supported early settlements, to the proud heritage of our local Aboriginal communities who have cared for this land for tens of thousands of years — the story of Lyne is one of resilience, innovation, and respect for each other.

We’re a growing community with a diverse population – from young families building their futures to older Australians who’ve chosen to retire here for the lifestyle and community spirit.

As your local MP, I hear every day about the issues that matter: better roads, more GPs and health services, access to affordable housing, and the need for local jobs that keep our young people in the region.

Our region is changing – and that brings both challenges and opportunities.

We need investment in infrastructure, health, education, and the local industries that power our economy. I’ll work every day, listening to the needs and aspirations of our communities and ensuring they are heard loud and clear in Canberra.

Because the future of regional Australia depends on strong communities like ours – and I’ll never stop standing up for the people who call this place home.

The Lyne electorate encompasses 16,099 square kilometres and stretches from Lorn and Karuah in the South up to Ballengarra and Rollands Plains in the North.

Major regions within the electorate include the Hastings, Camden Haven, Manning Valley, Myall Coast, Great Lakes and some of the Hunter.

The seat of Lyne was first formed in 1949 and named in honour of Sir William John Lyne.

Sir William John Lyne (1844–1913)

Lyne was an Australian politician who served as Premier of New South Wales from 1899 to 1901, and later as a federal cabinet minister under Edmund Barton and Alfred Deakin.

Lyne served as Minister for Home Affairs in Barton's government, and was later Minister for Trade and Customs and Treasurer under Alfred Deakin. He lost his seat at the 1913 election and died a few months later.

He was tall and vigorous, in his younger days a typical Australian bushman. He knew everyone in his electorate and was a good friend to all. He was bluff and frank and it was said of him that he was a man whose hand went instinctively into his pocket when any appeal was made to him. In Parliament, he was courageous and a vigorous administrator.

Scarcely an orator, he was a good tactician. Although overshadowed by greater men like Barton, Reid and Deakin, his views had much influence in his time. In his early political life he was a great advocate of irrigation, and in federal politics he had much to do with the shaping of the policy of protection eventually adopted by the Commonwealth.
