$50 MILLION HOUSING SUPPORT PACKAGE OFFERS RELIEF FOR FLOOD-AFFECTED RESIDENTS - 21ST aUGUST, 2025

More than three months on from the devastating East Coast floods in May, residents across the Mid North Coast and Hunter are finally set to receive targeted housing support to help them recover, rebuild, and return home.

Federal Member for Lyne, Alison Penfold MP, said the support will assist homeowners, renters, landlords and primary producers whose homes were left uninhabitable and uninsured.

“After months of uncertainty, people across our region will be glad to see this support finally reach the ground,” Ms Penfold said. “Any practical help to get families back into safe housing is a step forward.”

Jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments, the package will deliver temporary on-site accommodation for residents and primary producers, rental assistance for displaced tenants, urgent repair grants for homeowners and landlords, and a dedicated Housing Recovery Service to connect people with tailored support.

Ms Penfold thanks the governments for delivering this much-needed housing support package, but continues her call for greater assistance.

“While this is a positive step, it doesn’t go far enough. Small businesses are still waiting on Category D funding, and our region needs serious investment in CBD revitalisation, flood mitigation, and long-term community recovery.”

From Monday, 25 August, residents can contact the Housing Recovery Service on 1800 695 043 or visit nsw.gov.au to check their eligibility, apply for assistance, and access tailored housing recovery support.
